Welcome to the support page for RTA958: Networked Art (netArt) 2024 edition.
NetArt is a fast changing, expansive, nuanced, and (wonderfully) challenging space. It is deeply intersectional conceptually and technologically and I hope you will all dive into the many layers of thinking and creating that we will be exploring together.
It’s introductory on purpose.
The material on this site is geared towards creatives, not engineers. The level of material is often introductory. I assume you have no experience with networking and just want to get making. I use simplifying metaphors with reckless abandon and may describe concepts in ways that will make engineers cringe.
Some users may object to the ways I have chosen to describe various processes. If you are one of these users and you feel compelled to point out how my explanations are not what your physics prof told you, I encourage you to just keep moving — this site probably isn’t for you.
Site Organization
This site launched in January 2022. It is being built on the fly with little pre-planning. Starting January 2024 the site is supporting a new cohort of netArt students. Content is being augmented and tweeked. The site structure may change at anytime — I will strive to not orphan too many links.
For the time being there are two main categories of posts. Building Blocks — simple explanation of core concepts. The draw on some electronics and code samples pulled from several platforms. Patterns are focussed exploration of different dominant communication channels.
